Joe Newberry was born and raised in Austin, spending his youth making great grades, great friends and great catches on the baseball field.
After graduating from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1998, Joe traveled to Arizona, attending The University of Arizona and pledging Phi Gamma Delta. After four years of arduous study and revelry, Joe graduated with a dual degree in Finance and Economics knowledge that has become invaluable in property-heavy family law cases.
Joe's first position after college was in the Fixed Assets Department of Southwest Airlines in Dallas/Fort Worth. In his 13 month career with Southwest Airlines, Joe managed to rack up 96 flights, taking full advantage of his employee benefits.
In August 2004, Joe entered Law School at Texas Wesleyan in Fort Worth, and gained invaluable experience in the Tarrant County District Clerk's Office. After spending a year at The University of Texas Law School, Joe graduated in May 2007 from Texas Wesleyan. Shortly thereafter, Joe and his wife Kelley packed up Dixie (their dog) and Tucker (their cat) and hit the road for sunny southern California, where Joe had accepted a position at the Law Office of Marshall Silberberg.
While in California, Joe passed the California State Bar and the Texas State Bar exams, became licensed to practice in Federal Court, and focused his practice on medical malpractice, product liability, and intense motion practice. The majority of his cases were heard in Orange County, San Diego County, and Los Angeles County.
In August of 2008, when an opportunity opened for Joe to join his mother's law practice as an associate attorney, Joe, Kelley, Dixie, and Tucker drove home to Texas and set up shop at the Law Offices of Judy A. Leecraft & Associates as Judy's second Associate Attorney.
The token male in the office, Joe gets a bit of grief, and gives it too (all in good fun however!) His education in finance and economics and legal experience makes him uniquely qualified to handle complex property division cases, UCCJEA and Interstate Custody issues. He is also gaining valuable experience in DTPA (Deceptive Trade Practices Act) and wills.
Joe is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Austin Bar Association (Family Section, Criminal Law Section, Probate Section), the Williamson County Bar Association, and the Young Men's Business League.
